Both of the instructors for these courses are friends of mine and will offer nothing short of a phenomenal certification. I would highly recommend either of these courses if you have any interest at all in how things are done in the Surf.
And for those of you that can't quite make it out to them, you can always get a bit of an idea by checking out "Bondi Rescue" or "Surf Patrol" on YouTube. |

A good friend of mine is in charge of the aquatics area and lifeguards for Camp Goodtimes. For those of you that haven’t heard of it before, Camp Goodtimes is a summer camp in Mission, BC for children, teens, and families affected by Cancer. There is a great waterfront on site for the kids to play in, but they obviously need certified lifeguards.
In the past, I’ve had a lot of my old students volunteer their time for this great cause so I wanted to put it out to you to see if you would be interested.
Some details:
- You volunteer in a week block (more if you want), from June 28-Aug 9
- You are not paid, but your accommodation and food is taken care of
- Although it is an open water site, you DO NOT need a Waterfront NLS certification.
You can download the info poster here or visit the following website for more info:

If you think you might be interested and/or want more information, contact Sarah Jamieson at gotcamp@bc.cancer.ca. There is also a Facebook group for Camp GoodTimes called “Canadian Cancer Society Camp Goodtimes Needs Lifeguards” for more information.
Not only is this great experience for new and old guards alike, it really is an opportunity to help make a difference in many children’s lives.
